Campus-wide wireless LAN and remote access

Please click here for a typcial school scenario.

A high-speed wireless LAN is available to students anywhere on the campus. It offers them access to the Internet and to content provided by the library for research. Critical materials are blocked out by a content filter.

The professors also have access to the WLAN—although they have access not only to the Internet, but also to their faculty network and the administration. Guest students have mobile access to the WLAN via eduroam and DFN. The halls of residence located some distance away from the campus and without a DSL connection are provided with Internet connectivity over a WLAN point-to-point link. Remote access from home is provided via VPN access.

Multi-SSIDs and virtual LANs ensure that the network traffic of each group is completely separated. The entire WLAN is automatically managed from a central WLAN controller. The access points are powered via PoE. Users are authenticated by a RADIUS server.
