Routing of local services / ARP handling can be configured

Response packets from internal services (e.g. telnet, http/https, tftp, etc.) to recipients in Ethernet (LAN or WAN) were always sent directly to the corresponding senders up to LCOS version 7.80. As a result, devices could also be identified from any LAN, for example.

As of LCOS version 7.80, it is possible to perform an ARP query first instead of direct addressing and then use the resulting routing.

If, for example, a R&S®NC router should be detectable by LANconfig without knowledge of or special configuration for the LAN topology, the previous behavior is recommended. In this case, the router responds directly via unicast to the sender of the TFTP broadcast (e.g. during device search in LANconfig).

In environments where frequently changing virtual MAC and IP addresses are used—for example when using VRRP components in the LAN—, direct addressing can lead to incorrect resolutions, especially if the redundancy protocol performs a different MAC / IP assignment. For such scenarios, the setting Send packets from internal services via the router under IP Router > General is recommended.
