To prevent inactive or expired PPPoE sessions on the PPPoE server, LCP polling is used. Inactive sessions mainly occur when a PPPoE client (e.g., a router) is disconnected from power without properly terminating the PPPoE session. LCP polling, or LCP echo request, is used to check the reachability of the PPPoE client. This ensures that an inactive PPPoE session on the PPPoE server is terminated. For this purpose, under () in the PPP list for the DEFAULT entry—and, in the case of a local entry for a PPP user—the LCP Polling must be set for the parameter Time, e.g., to 3 (internally multiplied by 10 for 30 seconds), and for Retries, e.g., to 5 for 5 attempts. It is recommended to use the parameter with the value 1 and to enable LCP Polling at the same time.
