Aachen, July 19, 2021—With their latest firmware update, LANCOM Systems offer a performance upgrade for large SD-WANs and VPN site-connectivity scenarios. The throughput of the central-site gateway LANCOM ISG-8000 increases to up to 10 Gbps. At the same time, the switchover from one IPsec VPN connection to another when operating Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) or Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) now takes less than one second. LCOS 10.50 is available for free download now.

The LANCOM ISG-8000 operates as a central instance in large SD-WAN or site-connectivity scenarios with several thousand IPsec VPN channels and high data volumes. The performance upgrade available now distributes the data load across multiple cores and thus increases the overall performance of VPN connections to 10 Gbps. This means that significantly higher data volumes can be exchanged in less time when operating multiple VPN channels.

Fast failover for high operational reliability

The update also optimizes the failover times, which are a decisive factor in business-critical applications such as payment transactions with EC cash terminals. When using Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) or Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), connections can now be redirected to a better line in case of quality loss during an active session. It is also possible to switch from one IPsec VPN connection to another in less than one second.

Extensions to IPv6 & virtual routers

In addition to the performance upgrade, LCOS 10.50 offers further IPv6 features that are supported by all LANCOM VPN routers and SD-WAN gateways. These include 464XLAT with IPv6-only in mobile communications, NAT with IPv6 (NPTv6), load balancing with IPv6, and IPv6 polling.

For the virtual LANCOM vRouter, the update expands platform support. In addition to the hypervisor platforms Hyper-V, ESXi and Azure, it now also runs on KVM systems (Kernel-based Virtual Machine).

The firmware LCOS 10.50 is available now for free download from the LANCOM web site:
