Aachen, August 14, 2018—The German network technology manufacturer LANCOM Systems is further expanding its portfolio of cellular routers with the LANCOM 1790-4G. The VPN router supports LTE Advanced (CAT. 6) offering up to 300 Mbps for downloads. A Gigabit Ethernet interface for connecting external modems makes a variety of Internet connections suitable for use. The 1790-4G operates either autonomously or integrated into an SD-WAN installation via the LANCOM Management Cloud, which offers a high degree of automation.

Equipped with a high-speed cellular modem, this router is ideal for fast, professional Internet connections for businesses in locations without DSL availability. Alternatively, the LANCOM 1790-4G operates with external modems at its Gigabit Ethernet ports. This combination operates at all current Internet connections to offer fail-safe high-speed Internet access at retail stores, branch offices and home offices, including LTE backup. Additional connectors for external LTE antennas ensure optimal cellular reception in spaces with a poor signal.

Security, virtualization and dual-stack operation

The router is equipped with a stateful inspection firewall, intrusion prevention and denial of service protection to provide optimal protection for the entire network. The 1790-4G supports virtualization with its ARF (Advanced Routing and Forwarding) function, which provides up to 16 virtual networks, each with its own settings for DHCP, DNS, routing and firewall. Thanks to dual-stack implementation, it operates in pure IPv4, pure IPv6, or mixed dual-stack networks.

SD-WAN support included

Like all current LANCOM devices, the 1790-4G operates either with the free management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor or by integration into the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). The LMC is the first hyper-integrated network management solution on the market. This uses software-defined networking (SDN) for the highly automated deployment, monitoring and management of entire networks (WAN, LAN, WLAN) from the cloud. In an SD-WAN, secure VPN connections between sites are set up automatically—including network virtualization even across wide-area networks. The time-consuming, manual configuration of individual tunnel endpoints is no longer necessary.

The LANCOM 1790-4G is available now at a price of EUR 799 excluding VAT. The device provides 5 VPN channels as standard. An optional extra upgrades this to 25 channels. Optional web content filtering can be enabled for up to 100 users.
