LANCOM Systems releases free operating-system update LCOS 9.0

Power pack for professional WLAN optimization and secure site connectivity

Aachen, July 22, 2014 - LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for the commercial and public sectors, present the latest free update to their operating system LCOS. LANCOM offers a variety of new features and improvements with this generation jump to LCOS 9.0. WLAN customers in particular benefit from an extensive range of new professional features.

The intelligent WLAN optimization concept LANCOM Active Radio Control (ARC) offers a suite of intelligent optimization technologies. In addition to the tools already available (http://www.lancom-systems.com/arc/), LCOS 9.0 ARC now delivers "Client steering": For installations based on WLAN controllers, clients are actively directed to the access point that offers them the best service, which greatly increases the performance of the WLAN. Client steering is ideal for optimal load distribution especially where there is a high number of devices.

Further, the new operating system now offers "Auto WDS" (Wireless Distribution System). This feature integrates access points into existing infrastructures wirelessly. All access points, be they cabled or wireless, can be centrally managed from a WLAN controller. Administrators have full control over the network structures, so that the secure integration of the access points can be assured at all times.

"Fast roaming" as per the WLAN standard IEEE 802.11r allows clients to roam quickly between access points for an optimal WLAN user experience. In the case of controller-based WLAN installations, the passphrase for each client is cached and automatically propagated to all managed access points.

The updates to LCOS and LCMS (LANCOM Management System) regularly provide LANCOM customers with free new features for current LANCOM routers, access points, controllers and gateways. LCOS is completely developed in-house by LANCOM, the source code for which is not open source. By using its own closed-source operating system, LANCOM is able to guarantee that its products are free of "back doors".

LCMS consists of the Windows programs LANconfig, LANmonitor and WLANmonitor, which provide a platform for the configuration and monitoring of all LANCOM routers and wireless LAN access points.

LCOS 9.0, further information on other new features and updates as well as detailed data sheets are available for free download from the LANCOM website:
