Aachen, November 4, 2019—German network supplier LANCOM Systems is adding two powerful high-density outdoor access points to its wireless LAN portfolio. The LANCOM OAP-1700B and LANCOM OAP-1702B are ideal for stable outdoor Gigabit Wi-Fi, such as for outdoor hotspots with large numbers of users or for professional outdoor Wi-Fi applications. Point-to-point links (P2P) for connecting remote buildings or for broadband provision can also be implemented with these robust outdoor models that offer IP67 protection.

These two dual-radio enterprise access points support 802.11ac Wave 2 (Wi-Fi 5) clients in the 5-GHz band as well as 802.11n (Wi-Fi 4) clients in the 2.4-GHz. They offer 4x4 multi-user MIMO and, in mixed mode, they achieve data throughputs of up to 2,183 Mbps. An additional Bluetooth Low Energy radio module supports the latest applications based on BLE beaconing.

With identical feature sets, these two models differ only in their antenna design. While the LANCOM OAP-1700B is equipped with integrated sector antennas, the LANCOM OAP-1702B can operate eight external omni-directional antennas for all-round signal coverage. By mounting sector antennas instead, wireless LAN is made available across a narrower and yet longer-range area.

Protective housing for the most extreme conditions

Reliable operations under extreme conditions are ensured by the dust-proof and water-resistant IP67 protective housing and an extended temperature range of 33°C to 70°C. Power is optionally supplied via PoE (IEEE 802.3at).

Maximum Wi-Fi security is ensured by comprehensive security features such as WPA3-Personal, IEEE 802.1X (WPA3-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise), and IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption. Furthermore, the access point supports virtualization features such as multi-SSID and VLAN.

Cloud management for zero-touch deployment

Like all current LANCOM access points, the LANCOM OAP-1700B and LANCOM OAP-1702B offer maximum versatility in operation: They operate either autonomously or managed by WLAN controllers or even by the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). The option of cloud-managed WLAN provides efficient and highly automated (zero-touch) configuration and management of the access points by means of software-defined networking (SDN).

The LANCOM OAP-1700B is available at a price of EUR 1,399 excluding VAT. The variant with external antennas, the LANCOM OAP-1702B, is on offer at EUR 1,499 excluding VAT. Both devices are supplied with a complete set of accessories: Mounting materials, outdoor cables and a standards-compliant 802.3at PoE adapter.
