Aachen, September 11, 2017—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for business customers and the public sector, brings a technology upgrade to its line of cellular routers. The LANCOM 1780EW-4G+ is the first LANCOM VPN router to support LTE Advanced (CAT6) and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. In cellular mode it reaches up to 300 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream; Wi-Fi achieves up to 867 Mbps. Like all current LANCOM devices, the 1780EW-4G+ operates optionally as a standalone unit or highly automated by software-defined networking (SDN) from the LANCOM Management Cloud.

Thanks to high-speed cellular networking, the router is ideal for connecting mobile sites to the corporate network by means of fast and secure VPN. The integrated Wi-Fi provides secure wireless access at the same time. Typical applications are for temporary conference rooms or construction sites.

Alternatively, the LANCOM 1780EW-4G+ operates with an external modem at its Gigabit Ethernet port. This combination offers fail-safe high-speed Internet access at retail stores, branch offices and home offices, including LTE backup.

The Wi-Fi radio module in the LANCOM 1780EW-4G+ connects clients in the 2.4- or 5-GHz band with up to 867 Mbps (IEEE 802.11ac) or 300 Mbps (IEEE 802.11n). For optimal Wi-Fi operation it supports the intelligent Wi-Fi optimization concept LANCOM Active Radio Control (ARC) with features such as Adaptive RF Optimization, Adaptive Noise Immunity, and Spectral Scan.

Security, virtualization and backup included

Equipped with a stateful inspection firewall, intrusion prevention and denial of service protection, the business router provides optimal protection for the whole network. Full IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption and IEEE 802.1X/EAP (WPA2 Enterprise) provide security for highly sensitive environments.

The Advanced Routing and Forwarding (ARF) function enables the 1780EW-4G+ to provide up to 16 virtual networks, each with its own settings for DHCP, DNS, routing and firewall. Dual-stack implementation allows it to operate in pure IPv4, pure IPv6, or mixed dual-stack networks, and it can be powered via PoE (IEEE 802.3at).

SDN for highly automated network management

Like all current LANCOM devices, the 1780EW-4G+ offers a choice of management setups with installation, management and monitoring either handled by means of the free management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor, or by integration into the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). The LMC is the first hyper-integrated network management solution on the market. It provides the highly automated set up, monitoring and management of entire networks (WAN, LAN, WLAN) and all of their components, including routers, gateways, switches, and Wi-Fi access points.

The software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) enables the automatic setup of secure VPN connections between sites, including network virtualization across the wide-area network. The laborious configuration of individual tunnel endpoints is no longer required at all. Software-defined WLAN (SD-WLAN) facilitates the automatic configuration of multiple WLANs (multi-SSID) including, for example, the separation of hotspot networks. The WLAN profiles are rolled out or updated on any number of access points and WLAN routers simply by mouse click.

The LANCOM 1780EW-4G+ is available now. The device provides 5 VPN channels as standard. An optional extra upgrades this to 25 channels. Optional web content filtering can be enabled for up to 100 users.
