Aachen, August 14, 2019—German network infrastructure supplier LANCOM Systems introduces version 5.0 of its IPSec-based Advanced VPN Client (AVC). It offers additional features and improvements that simplify the handling for administrators and users alike. These include IPv4 / IPv6 dual-stack support and a new quality of service (QoS) module that, among other things, allows the prioritization of real-time data streams. The VPN client supports all current 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems.
Using a VPN connection for large file transfers, sending e-mails and IP phone calls can quickly exhaust the capacity of the connection medium. The new QoS module of the AVC allows applications, such as VoIP connections, to be prioritized in the VPN tunnel and assigned bandwidth preferentially: This guarantees the bandwidth required for high-quality applications and keeps connections free of interruptions or distortion. The QoS module ensures that active applications retain the outbound data rates assigned to them and stops inactive applications from blocking them.
Advanced dual-stack implementation
With version 5.0 of the AVC, LANCOM for the first time supports IPv4 / IPv6 dual stack within the VPN tunnel. Furthermore, split tunneling can be configured separately for IPv4 and IPv6.
Advanced Home Zone feature
The Home Zone feature has a usage profile with predefined firewall rules that apply only in the home office. This allows the use of printers and scanners in the home network, for example. Once the user leaves the Home Zone area, the default firewall rules are enabled again.
Version 5.0 greatly increases the versatility of this feature. Instead of using a predefined Home Zone again and again, it can be enabled temporarily and disabled again after rebooting, a period of standby or a change of connection medium, and it can be reconfigured if necessary.
LANCOM Advanced VPN Client 5.0 supports all current 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems up to Windows 10. Consequently, even companies with heterogeneous infrastructures can work with a single, universal client to manage remote access. The benefits include lower costs for administrators, the user help desk, and on training.
Version 5.0 is available at a price of EUR 109 excluding VAT. For users of the Advanced VPN Client version 3.10 or higher, LANCOM offers an upgrade at a price of EUR 64 plus VAT.
