Aachen, April 7, 2017—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of professional networking solutions for business customers and the public sector, is expanding its portfolio of Wi-Fi access points with four high-performance IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2 enterprise devices in a purist and elegant design. The dual-radio access points LANCOM LN-1702 and LANCOM LN-1700 offer 4x4 multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) and transmit at up to 1733 Mbps. The 2x2 MU-MIMO models LANCOM LN-862 and LANCOM LN-860 reach up to 867 Mbps. All of these access points can operate autonomously or with the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). They support the design and setup of highly efficient software-defined networking infrastructures (SDN).

The four new enterprise-class access points each offer an 11n and an 11ac Wave 2 radio module to simultaneously supply 11n clients in the 2.4-GHz frequency band as well as 11ac-enabled client devices with fast 5-GHz Wi-Fi. The devices remain fully compatible to former Wi-Fi standards such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n and they support DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection).

The two 4x4 MU-MIMO devices each transmit with seven antennas. Six of these are mounted externally on the LANCOM LN-1702, and the seventh is fitted inside the device. The LANCOM LN-1700 has seven internal antennas within its elegant white housing. The 2x2 MU-MIMO models each have four antennas. These are mounted externally on the LANCOM LN-862, and invisibly integrated within the housing of the LANCOM LN-860.

The access points were developed especially for operation in exclusive and modern buildings. They are the ideal solution for enterprises wanting to offer discreet high-performance WLANs with reliable coverage or user-friendly hotspot solutions (for example in hotels, restaurants, universities, libraries, etc.).

Multi-user MIMO and Active Radio Control: a powerful combination

The four new flagship APs in the LANCOM WLAN portfolio unite a range of innovative features that ensure optimal Wi-Fi coverage.

Multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) facilitates the sharing of all of the available spatial streams between multiple Wave 2 clients at the same time. Bandwidth issued more efficiently and delays in the network are massively reduced, meaning that wireless networking exceeding the speed of a Gigabit Ethernet network becomes a reality. Even high-bandwidth teleconferencing applications with HD video can be used at any location without loss of quality. The clients also benefit from beamforming for a better signal.

In addition to the Wave 2-specific features, the access points also support the intelligent wireless optimization concept, LANCOM Active Radio Control (ARC). Features such as “Spectral Scan” for detecting interference sources, “Adaptive Noise Immunity” to cut out interfering signals, along with “Client Steering” and “Band Steering” provide sustainable optimization of the radio field. “RF Optimization” reduces channel overlaps, and “Airtime Fairness” ensures that bandwidth is used more effectively.

Fit for the future thanks to SDN

Like all current LANCOM access points, the LN-17xx and LN-86x series offer maximum versatility of operation: They operate either autonomously or managed by WLAN Controllers or even the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). The LMC is the world's first hyper-integrated network management solution on the market. It enables the highly automated installation of even the most complex networking infrastructures by means of software-defined network technologies (SD-WAN, SD-LAN, SD-WLAN).

The access points are also equipped with a comprehensive range of security features, including fully functional IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption as well as IEEE 802.1X/EAP (WPA2 Enterprise) for high-security environments. They support network virtualization with Multi-SSID and VLAN and can be powered via PoE (IEEE 802.3at).

The LANCOM LN-1702 and the LN-1700 as well as the LN-862 and the LN-860 are available now.
