LANCOM: Extensive operating system update for Wireless LAN, VPN and All-IP

LCOS 9.10 brings its own CA, high availability clustering, and an All-IP migration aid

Aachen, July 21, 2015—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for the commercial and public sectors, now offers a free update to its operating system LCOS. The latest firmware release provides significant improvements in performance and stability in particular for users of WiFi and All-IP infrastructures. Also, LCOS 9.10 features its own certificate authority and high-availability clustering for two new high-end functions that offer even more security, better management, and virtualization in VPN structures.

The main innovations in detail:

Integrated CA for certificate-based key negotiation

LANCOM devices now come with an integrated feature for the user-friendly creation of digital certificates. Thanks to Smart Certificate, administrators can operate securely encrypted VPN connections based on certificates they created themselves, with no need for an external CA. Certificate-based key negotiation offers a significantly higher level of security than the use of passwords.

The CA is included with all current LANCOM central-site VPN gateways, WiFi controllers, and with all current LANCOM routers upgraded with the LANCOM VPN 25 option.

VPN gateways and WiFi controllers as a high-availability cluster

The LANCOM High Availability Clustering options allow multiple WiFi controllers and central-site VPN gateways to be collected into a high-availability cluster of devices. Many benefits result from this, including the central management and the convenient configuration synchronization (Config Sync) of all devices in the cluster. Significant advantages are available when setting up intelligent backup scenarios, as only one WiFi controller or central-site VPN gateway needs to be configured per cluster.

Optimal preparation for All-IP migration

With LCOS 9.10, the All-IP access credentials can be stored in the router even before the actual switch-over date. This means that on the day of the migration by the provider, all of the components are available again within minutes. This also applies to any associated ISDN infrastructures.

More security, more management, more virtualization

LANCOM users benefit from improved professionalization of their network management. LCOS 9.10 enables configurations to be encrypted, remote networks to be flexibly interconnected via the "virtual Ethernet cable" known as a GRE tunnel, and the installation of high-performance point-to-point links via IEEE 802.11ac WiFi with data transfer rates of up to 867 Mbps. Furthermore, an individual bandwidth limit can be specified for each wireless client in each SSID.

LCOS 9.10 and further information on over 100 updates and new features are available for free download from the LANCOM website: www.lancom.eu/en/products/lcos/lcos-910/
