New dual-radio outdoor access point

LANCOM OAP-322 for professional outdoor wireless LAN

Aachen, June 17, 2013 - LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of professional solutions for VPN network connectivity and wireless LAN infrastructure, presents the LANCOM OAP-322, the latest addition to its range of outdoor access points.

The LANCOM OAP-322 is ideally suited for professional WLAN applications in the outdoors, such as for establishing modern outdoor hotspots with professional coverage for open spaces, or for WLAN connectivity to a company network via point-to-point links.

This access point has a highly robust IP66 protective housing and operates even in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to +70°C. In compliance with the IEEE 802.11agn WLAN standard, the two radio modules operate with four antennas in the 2.4-GHz or 5-GHz frequency bands. The device can be powered as per the PoE standard (IEEE 802.af) or alternatively via an optionally available universal power adapter (10–28 volts), the LANCOM OAP-320 PSU.

The LANCOM OAP-322 features band steering with which WLAN clients are actively redirected away from the often overcrowded 2.4-GHz band to the higher-performance 5-GHz frequency band. Automatically controlled by the access point, clients are redirected to the 5-GHz frequency band to effectively double WLAN performance because of the number of channels available for bundling here.

Like all LANCOM access points, the new LANCOM OAP-322 optionally operates in stand-alone mode or in combination with a LANCOM WLAN controller. The device supports network virtualization with Multi-SSID and VLAN.

Wireless transmissions by the LANCOM OAP-322 are protected from attacks—without loss of performance—thanks to the extensive security features including IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption and IEEE 802.1X/EAP (WPA2 Enterprise) for environments with higher security requirements.

The LANCOM OAP-322 is available now.
