Aachen, 28 February 2023—The German network and security supplier LANCOM Systems presents their new line of Gigabit business routers for high-performance, high-availability VPN office and branch connections via fiber optics and cable Internet. The new 1800-series launches with two models: While the LANCOM 1800EF enables the direct and indirect connection to fiber-optic lines (FTTH), the sister model LANCOM 1800EFW additionally offers fast dual-band wireless LAN (Wi-Fi 6). Both models optionally offer a high degree of automated operation by means of SD-WAN via the LANCOM Management Cloud.

The LANCOM 1800EF features an integrated SFP port for direct connection to a fiber-optic cable (FTTH) using a separately available SFP module (GPON/AON). In addition, it offers maximum flexibility for connecting to external modems via Gigabit Ethernet.

The fast dual-band wireless LAN (Wi-Fi 6) module of the LANCOM 1800EFW with 2x2 multi-user MIMO for the downlink and uplink reliably integrates wireless end devices into the network using the 5-GHz and 2.4-GHz bands simultaneously. Wi-Fi 6 technology achieves transmission rates of up to 1200 Mbps at 5 GHz and up to 575 Mbps at 2.4 GHz.

For maximum bandwidth and effective load balancing, all devices in the new LANCOM Gigabit router line can use up to four Internet connections at the same time. By means of Advanced Routing and Forwarding (ARF) with up to 16 isolated and independently routed IP contexts, they efficiently route of all of the IP applications through a single central router while keeping the different communication channels securely separated from one another. The standard equipment of five IPsec VPN channels (optionally 25) provides strong encryption for the secure connection of mobile workplaces and the protection of corporate data.

Radically simplified configuration with SD-WAN

In combination with the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC), the SD-WAN gateways provide many possibilities for the automated setup of secure VPN connections (Auto-VPN) between sites, including network virtualization. Highlight features such as High Scalability VPN (HSVPN) and Advanced Mesh VPN offer a significant increase in scalability and efficiency in scenarios with numerous branch sites and applications. Furthermore, if several WAN connections are available, they automatically operate in active/active mode (load balancing), thereby increasing the overall available bandwidth. With Dynamic Path Selection and Dynamic Traffic Steering, applications are also dynamically routed over the best connection.

Network security Made in Germany

Equipped with a stateful inspection firewall, the LANCOM 1800-series protects the entire network. With features such as intrusion prevention and Denial-of-Service protection, the devices provide optimal protection and secure all of the data on the network.

Development of the software and hardware at LANCOM Systems, as well as the manufacturing, are predominantly based in Germany, as is the hosting of the network management. LANCOM pays special attention to the trustworthiness and security of its products. The company is committed to devices that are free from backdoors and is a holder of the trust mark “IT Security made in Germany” as initiated by the German Ministry of Economics.

With the BSI IT security mark

More transparency and consumer protection when choosing a router: The BSI IT security mark identifies digital products for which manufacturers or service providers have guaranteed compliance with the security requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This offers a practical way for consumers to be sure of the security characteristics of the product before they buy. LANCOM Systems is the first manufacturer of broadband routers allowed to label a range of products with the BSI IT security mark. The routers of the new 1800-series are included.

The LANCOM 1800EF is available for EUR 709 (excl. VAT), the LANCOM 1800EFW for EUR 949 (excl. VAT). The 1G fiber-optic module LANCOM SFP-AON -1 is available for EUR 119 (RRP excl. VAT), the GPON version LANCOM SFP-GPON -1 is available for EUR 159 (RRP excl. VAT).
