LANCOM Systems presents new 802.11ac access points for industrial applications

High-performance Wi-Fi for warehouses, logistics, and covered open spaces

Aachen, May 3, 2016—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of professional networking solutions for business customers and the public sector, is expanding its WLAN portfolio with two new IEEE 802.11ac access points for operation in tough environments. The single-radio access point IAP-821 and the dual-radio model IAP-822 have dust-proof IP-50 all-metal housings and operate between 20 and +50°C. They network warehouses, logistics, covered open spaces, and mobile machines at up to 867 Mbps.

The single-radio access point IAP-821 features a dual-band capable IEEE 802.11n/ac radio module and two connectors for external antennas. It supports mobile clients either in the 2.4-GHz or 5-GHz band.

The dual-radio model IAP-822 has two dual-band capable 802.11n/ac radio modules and is equipped with four external antenna connectors. It supports 11n-clients in the 2.4-GHz frequency band and also modern 11ac-enabled devices in the 5-GHz band.

With 2x2 MIMO and radio modules compliant with the Wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11ac, the access points transmit with gross data rates of up to 867 Mbps and are fully backwards compatible with older wireless standards such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n. Power is optionally supplied via PoE according to the IEEE 802.3af standard.

Professional WLAN optimization with LANCOM ARC

Both the IAP-821 and the IAP-822 support the Wi-Fi optimization tools known collectively as LANCOM Active Radio Control. This intelligent combination of innovative features included with the LCOS operating system—such as adaptive noise immunity, adaptive RF optimization or client steering—sustainably increases wireless performance and supports administrators with professional tools for Wi-Fi management.

The spectral scan function enables access points to search their radio field for interference sources, so providing a professional tool for efficient Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Scans of the entire frequency spectrum allow interference to be identified and displayed graphically.

Comprehensive security features & management options

With numerous integrated security features including full IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption as well as IEEE 802.1X/EAP (WPA2 Enterprise), the access points provide maximum security for the highest demands. They support Multi-SSID and VLAN to provide network virtualization.

Like all LANCOM access points, the new industrial devices optionally operate in stand-alone mode or they can be managed by a LANCOM wireless controller. The devices also support the LANCOM Public Spot option for user-friendly Wi Fi hotspots.

Furthermore, LANCOM offers an extensive range of accessories to mount antennas for optimum coverage: The mounting kit LANCOM IAP Mount allows the versatile installation of LANCOM IAP devices on top-hat rails or poles in harsh environments. A comprehensive line of antennas completes the portfolio.
