Central management for up to 30 WLAN devices

LANCOM WLAN controller WLC-4006+with integrated Hotspot functionality

Aachen, December 11, 2012—LANCOM Systems, the specialist in network connectivity and wireless LAN, introduces its latest wireless LAN controller, the LANCOM WLC-4006+. This new WLAN controller is designed for the centralized management of company networks with 6 to 30 WLAN devices: Ex-factory it can manage up to 6 WLAN devices, and with the new LANCOM WLC AP Upgrade +6 Option, you have the flexibility of adding further managed devices, up to a total of 30.

Featuring an integrated WiFI Hotspot solution - the LANCOM Public Spot, it is also ideal for hotels or restaurants to offer their guests the convenience of Internet access. The Public Spot solution controls Internet access for guests, it produces individual, easily printable access credentials, it offers a variety of options for billing, and it is provider-independent.

All LANCOM access points and WLAN routers can be managed by the new WLAN controller. This gives operators the freedom to choose from a large portfolio of indoor, outdoor and industrial access points and WLAN routers.

Easy installation, flexible applications

All of the WLAN settings are entered into a central profile in the WLAN controller just once—everything after that is simple Plug&Play. New access points are detected automatically and, once securely identified by digital signature, they are integrated into the network. Every access point automatically receives all of the configuration settings necessary for optimized operation of the wireless network, including channel settings and security policies. Operations are permanently monitored centrally by the WLAN controller, including background scanning.

WLAN networks are extended easily and securely simply by "plugging in" new access points. Even remote sites can be seamlessly integrated into the central WLAN management—any IP connection will do.

LANCOM WLAN controllers forward the data in different ways depending on the application or even the user—be it direct bridging to the LAN for maximum performance, separation from the LAN and into a dedicated VLAN for WLAN guest accounts, or tunneled to the controller for Voice-over-WLAN overlay networks. And the LANCOM WLC-4006+ is ready for the future with its support of the new address standard IPv6.

An integral part of the LANCOM WLAN controller is a reliable redundancy concept: Unlike many other centralized systems, the occurrence of a single point of failure is effectively avoided thanks to the ability of the APs to operate in standalone mode. Alternatively, additional controllers can be integrated into the network to take over the functions in case a controller should fail.

The LANCOM WLC-4006+ fits seamlessly into existing network monitoring systems based on the free monitoring tool LANmonitor or the powerful LANCOM Large Scale Monitor for monitoring up to 1,000 devices.
