Monitoring and surveillance with the LANCOM Large Scale Monitor

Aachen, September 19, 2012—LANCOM Systems, the specialist in network connectivity and wireless LAN, announces its new monitoring and surveillance system LANCOM Large Scale Monitor. As a professional tool for monitoring medium-sized to large-scale networks, the LANCOM Large Scale Monitor (LSM) watches over 25 to 1,000 network components. The server-based solution with a browser-based user interface is tailor-made for all LANCOM components such as WLAN access points, controllers, switches and routers. Moreover, this system is based on open-source components, which additionally allows for the monitoring of third-party products such as servers and printers. Network problems are clearly presented in tables or graphically on maps and floor plans, and e-mail alerts are sent to the administrator if critical values exceed or fall below threshold limits.

Flexible options for installation

Commissioning the LANCOM LSM is very straightforward. LSM is installed from a bootable DVD, which also features a customized Linux distribution to get you started quickly. Also available is a fully installed and the preconfigured VMware-based virtual machine (VM).

Up to speed – always

The different user interfaces cater for a variety of different requirements for information. For instance, alerts and dashboards have been designed especially with smartphones in mind, so that system administrators and managers are constantly informed of the availability status.

Operators and support teams benefit from the clearly structured folder views and floor plan displays. The real-time status information they can display provides a fast and intuitive overview for fault diagnosis.

More than just a monitoring system

Another special feature is the seamless roaming history for WLAN stations. This facilitates the fast identification of errors from a central location, which is useful when troubleshooting signal-coverage problems experienced by moving WLAN clients, for example. Problems like this are otherwise difficult to locate as data acquisition intervals are typically just 1 to 10 minutes. Troubleshooting is greatly simplified as the complete network history from a WLAN client's perspective, accurate to the second, helps to provide a complete and seamless understanding even of complex client movements.

The monitoring of VPN connections is greatly helped by the specialized and clearly structured display of all configured VPN connections.
