New 802.11ac enterprise-class Wi-Fi access points from LANCOM Systems

Network specialist opts for 2x2 MIMO, new housing design, and enhanced WLAN optimization with ARC

Aachen, September 23, 2015—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for the commercial and public sectors, present their new L-800 series of 867-Mbps Wi-Fi access points. The two IEEE 802.11ac dual-radio access points LANCOM L-822acn dual Wireless and LANCOM LN-830acn dual Wireless add a further two innovative enterprise-class access points to the manufacturer's Wi-Fi portfolio. LANCOM has equipped these two devices with 2x2 MIMO and an enhanced version of their Wireless LAN optimization solution Active Radio Control (ARC). With the LN-830acn LANCOM also introduces a purist and elegant housing design for architecturally sophisticated environments.

The two access points each have one 11n and one 11ac radio module, and they operate with 4 MIMO antennas. The devices remain fully backwards compatible to former wireless standards such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n. Consequently, clients in the 2.4-GHz frequency band and also the rising number of 11ac-enabled devices in the 5-GHz band can all be provisioned with fast Wi-Fi. 802.11ac-enabled devices with 1x1 MIMO benefit from up to 433 Mbps, while devices with 2x2 MIMO reach up to 867 Mbps.

For the LANCOM L-822acn dual Wireless LANCOM has opted for their well-established housing design and four external antennas. The LANCOM LN-830acn dual Wireless comes in the new, elegant white housing and features four MIMO antennas, which are discreetly accommodated within the housing. The LEDs can be deactivated. The device was developed especially for operation in exclusive and modern buildings. Both of these access points upgrade to powerful WLAN hotspot solutions by means of the LANCOM Public Spot option.

802.11ac from LANCOM: Smart. Fast. Innovative.

The LANCOM L-822acn dual Wireless and the LANCOM LN-830acn dual Wireless support the intelligent WLAN optimization concept Active Radio Control (ARC) to sustainably optimize their radio fields.

The launch of these two devices is accompanied by enhancements to LANCOM's ARC with two new features: "Adaptive RF Optimization" provides a dynamic selection of optimal WLAN channels and reduced channel overlap for greater WLAN throughput. "Airtime fairness" better exploits the available bandwidth thanks to a fair distribution of WLAN transmission times between the active clients.

With the proven "Spectral Scan", Wireless LAN interference sources are reliably detected by the 11n radio module and graphically displayed. This is useful for efficient network troubleshooting. "Adaptive Noise Immunity" enables the access points to block out interference and to focus exclusively on WLAN clients with sufficient signal strength.

For controller-based installations with several access points, "Client Steering" intelligently distributes individual clients to the best available access point. The "Band Steering" feature actively directs WLAN clients away from the often overcrowded 2.4-GHz band to the higher-performance 5-GHz frequency band. This can more than double WLAN performance because the 5-GHz frequency band has a higher number of channels available for bundling.

Like all LANCOM access points, the new models optionally operate in stand-alone mode or in combination with a LANCOM WLAN controller. The devices are also equipped with a comprehensive range of security features, including fully functional IEEE 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption, and also IEEE 802.1X/EAP (WPA2 Enterprise) for high-security environments. They support network virtualization by means of both multi-SSID and VLAN, and are optionally powered by PoE (IEEE 802.3af).

The LANCOM L-822acn dual Wireless as well as the model in the new housing with internal antennas, the LANCOM LN-830acn dual Wireless, are available now.
