Aachen, December 16, 2019—The German network infrastructure supplier further expands its range of switches with the new LANCOM GS-3528XP. The multi-gigabit 28-port PoE access switch has 12 ports that support 2.5-gigabit Ethernet, so providing a high-performance basis for operating Wi-Fi 6 access points and other network components with high performance requirements. It can be managed in the traditional way, or by means of the highly automated configuration and administration with software-defined networking (SDN) from the LANCOM Management Cloud.

The latest wireless standard Wi-Fi 6 delivers significantly higher data rates than previous Wi-Fi standards. In many networks this overloads the underlying LAN infrastructure, so existing gigabit switches have to be replaced by multi-gigabit models. LANCOM now supports this migration process with its first multi-gigabit access switch, which can connect up to 12 Wi-Fi 6 access points.

The LANCOM GS-3528XP features 12x 2.5-gigabit Ethernet ports, 12x gigabit Ethernet ports, 4 SFP+ ports, and is equipped for transmission rates of up to 10 Gbps. With a data throughput of 164 Gbps on the backplane, it offers maximum performance even under load. The switch supports the two PoE standards IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) with a total output of 370 watts, making it the ideal power supply for the growing number of PoE end devices with increased power requirements. This means there is no need to install any additional electrical infrastructure.

Static routing & DHCP server

The LANCOM GS-3528XP supports the basic layer-3 function static routing, so allowing these switches to perform certain routing tasks. Router capacities are freed up to handle the external data traffic and the efficiency of the overall network is improved. Furthermore, the switch can act as a DHCP server and independently assign IP addresses to clients, meaning it can handle the complete IP management of its network.

Highly efficient management via the cloud

Like all fully managed switches from LANCOM, the GS-3528XP is optionally managed by the conventional LANCOM Management Tools or integrated into the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). Network administrators benefit from highly efficient cloud management of the devices when operating them via the LMC. At the click of a mouse, switch configurations that are fully customized to each site's network architecture and to virtual LANs (VLANs) are rolled-out or updated simultaneously.

Access control & secure remote management

IEEE 802.1X, (port-, single-, multi- and MAC-based), quality-of-service (QoS), as well as VLAN tagging as per IEEE 802.1q equip the LANCOM GS-3528XP with comprehensive security and management functions. Furthermore, the incoming and outgoing data traffic is prioritized by QoS. Thanks to the dual-stack implementation, the switch operates in pure IPv4, pure IPv6, or in mixed networks to provide full future viability. Secure communication protocols such as SSH, SSL and SNMPv3 enable professional remote network management. The access switch also supports the TACACS+ protocol for authentication, authorization and accounting.

Software lifecycle management with update guarantee

LANCOM regularly offers free updates for maximum investment protection. Major releases with new features, release updates with minor improvements and bug fixes are available not only for the entire product life cycle, but also for a period of two years after the product’s discontinuation. In many cases, critical security fixes and support go far beyond that.

As the holder of the “IT Security made in Germany” trust mark, LANCOM has also committed to keeping its products free of secret backdoors. This makes the LANCOM switches, access points, routers, firewalls and the LANCOM Management Cloud ideal for operation in sensitive environments and at all times in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

The LANCOM GS-3528XP is available now with a 5-year warranty and at a price of EUR 1,799 excluding VAT. Optional accessories from LANCOM include the 10G SFP SX module LANCOM SFP-SX-LC10, the 1G variant LANCOM SFP-SX-LC1 and the LX variant LANCOM SFP-LX-LC1 (1G). Also available is a direct attached cable (LANCOM SFP-DAC10) for direct connection to LANCOM switches with SFP+ ports.
