Aachen, 10 November, 2020—The German network infrastructure supplier LANCOM is rejuvenating its range of desktop firewalls for small and medium-sized companies. The LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewalls UF-160 and UF-260 are powerful solutions for effective cybersecurity; from conventional Unified Threat Management (UTM) to state-of-the-art cybersecurity technologies such as sandboxing and machine learning. They are available now from LANCOM resellers.

A new hardware design and further software developments provide a leap in performance compared to the previous models UF-100 and UF-200. The UF-160 achieves an IDS/IPS throughput of 750 Mbps, while the larger model exceeds 1,2 Gbps. This makes these desktop appliances ideally suited for gigabit connections, in particular the UF-260 with its dedicated SFP port. LANCOM has also upgraded the range of functions. Even the entry-level model UF-160 now offers fully featured UTM with SSL and deep packet inspection, sandboxing, and machine learning.

SSL, deep packet inspection, and machine learning

High-performance SSL inspection addresses the increasingly widespread encryption of data traffic, while the R&S®PACE2 Deep Packet Inspection Engine protects against highly complex APT cyber attacks. This engine precisely classifies network traffic, protocols and applications, as well as protecting against data leaks and data loss (data loss prevention, DLP)—even on layer 7. To protect against malware and viruses, even including zero-day exploits, suspicious files are analyzed using machine learning in a shielded sandbox. The associated cloud service is hosted in Germany and complies with European data-protection regulations.

Graphical user interface & cloud management

The firewalls are operated by an intuitive and innovative graphical user interface that offers transparency across all of the company’s secured areas and greatly simplifies the implementation of company-wide security and compliance requirements. Highest availability is available by operating a HA cluster equipped with redundant hardware. Furthermore, both models use a simple pairing process to connect to the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC), a system that enables transparent monitoring, including alarms about the device status, and remote configuration from the cloud.

The new models are available now from LANCOM resellers. The UF-160 for up to 20 users starts at EUR 699 (excl. VAT), while the more powerful firewall, the UF-260, is intended for companies with up to 40 concurrent users. It is available for EUR 949 (excl. VAT). Licenses for UTM functions and software updates are available for periods of one, three or five years.

The firewalls have a three-year warranty, with an optional extension to five years. Support is provided by the LANCOM Support Center. An overview of the models and further information are available here: www.lancom-systems.com/products/security/unified-firewalls/
