Becoming an integrated network and security manufacturer

IT security fair it-sa: LANCOM Systems presents first elements of its future security portfolio

Aachen, September 17, 2018 — Network manufacturer LANCOM Systems is exhibiting at the IT security fair it-sa (Nuremberg, October 9 – 11, 2018) under the motto “Network meets Security”, premiering a product portfolio expanded by pure-bred security solutions. The German infrastructure provider’s hybrid security approach includes classic on-premises firewall solutions as well as cloud-based enterprise-grade security. LANCOM launches a security & compliance dashboard for its software-defined networking (SDN) solution at the show (hall 10, booth 402). The dashboard in the LANCOM Management Cloud offers companies a central overview of all security and compliance-related device information in their WAN, LAN and WLAN.

The first element of the new security portfolio are the next-generation Unified Firewalls from sister company Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity. The products are designed for small and medium-sized businesses with conventional networks, and they supplement the existing LANCOM portfolio for WAN, LAN and WLAN with a higher-level layer of security. The Unified Firewalls offer comprehensive security features and UTM (Unified Threat Management). Being operated from an innovative graphical user interface, they make an intuitively simple task of monitoring the firewall and its compliance.

Full overview with the security and compliance dashboard

The more complex a network, the more time-consuming it becomes to implement, monitor and maintain compliance. From November, companies managing their networks with software-defined networking (SDN) from the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC) gain a dedicated security and compliance dashboard, which is included with LMC licenses.

The dashboard verifies the configuration of all SDN-managed routers, switches, and WLAN access points, and is customizable. It monitors the licensing, firmware, and warranty status of every device. This prevents missing updates or obsolete devices from jeopardizing corporate security. Furthermore, the dashboard documents all access attempts from the outside, which helps with the fast detection of unauthorized attempts.

SD security from the cloud

Software-defined networking (SDN) is the future standard for modern, agile network infrastructures. As the world's first hyper-integrated network management solution, the LANCOM Management Cloud is a central platform that enables a holistic, highly efficient SD-WAN, SD-LAN and cloud-managed WLAN. In cooperation with the cloud security provider ZScaler, LANCOM is now enhancing the LMC with a new service feature: Enterprise-grade software-defined security (SD-Security) from the cloud. The central firewall and UTM features are activated by mouse click from the LMC. They are available to all LANCOM customers through a paid license upgrade.

it-sa marks LANCOM's first appearance with their new, comprehensive approach. In the medium term, network solutions from LANCOM and security technologies from Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity will combine to create a highly integrated security portfolio including on-premises products and comprehensive SD-Security from the LANCOM Management Cloud.

Ralf Koenzen, founder and Managing Director at LANCOM Systems: “A highly integrated network and security solution from a single source is a compelling vision, and at it-sa we present our first step towards this goal. We can accommodate all of our partners and customers, regardless of whether they use conventional network architectures or cloud-based software-defined networks. This path leads to a fusion of state-of-the-art technologies “Made in Germany”, which is unique on the market.”
