Aachen, July 15, 2019—The German network infrastructure supplier LANCOM Systems is expanding its range of switches. The GS-3152X series is the vendor’s first range of high-performance switches with basic layer-3 features. These Gigabit switches are the basis for modern network infrastructures in any industry or field of application. All three models can be configured and managed either conventionally or with a high degree of automation by using the LANCOM Management Cloud and its software-defined networking (SDN).

The new range consists of three fully managed Gigabit switches. The LANCOM GS-3152X, LANCOM GS-3152XP, and LANCOM GS-3152XSP provide basic layer-3 features such as static routing and a DHCP server. This supplements the existing LANCOM portfolio of 8 to 52-port switches with the new Layer 3 Lite switches for high-performance networks.

The LANCOM GS-3152X is equipped with 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 4 SFP+ ports, each of which support transmission rates of up to 10 Gbps. With a data throughput of 176 Gbps on the backplane, it offers full performance even under high loads.

The PoE variant LANCOM GS-3152XP is additionally equipped with Power over Ethernet and supplies power to connected PoE devices such as IP telephones, access points, or surveillance cameras. The switch supports the two PoE standards IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+), with an overall output of 720 Watts. This makes the GS-3152XP ideal for supplying power to the increasing number of PoE devices with high power requirements.

The LANCOM GS-3152XSP is the first LANCOM switch to provide maximum PoE performance on all 48 Gigabit ports with two redundant, hot-swappable 920-watt power supplies. Integrating the second, optional power supply enables the implementation of fail-safe scenarios. The PoE power budget adds up to 1,640 watts and ensures that all PoE ports can supply maximum power. Its innovative front-to-back ventilation design optimizes cooling in 19” racks.

With all three devices, the ports can be bundled with LACP according to IEEE 802.3ad. This achieves speeds of up to 40 Gbps on uplinks.

Static routing & DHCP server

The LANCOM GS-3152X series supports the basic layer-3 function static routing, which enables these switches to perform basic routing tasks. Predefined network routes through one or more network segments speed up data exchange, especially where internal data volumes are high, and they reduce the load on the router. Router capacities are freed up to handle the external data traffic and the efficiency of the overall network is increased.

As a DHCP server, the switches are independently able to assign IP addresses to their clients, so they can fully handle the IP management in the network they are connected to.

Highly efficient management via software-defined LAN

Like all fully managed switches from LANCOM, the GS-3152X series is optionally managed by the conventional LANCOM Management Tools or integrated into the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). In combination with the LMC, network administrators benefit from highly efficient switch management by software-defined LAN (SD-LAN). At the click of a mouse, switch configurations are rolled out or updated simultaneously taking each site’s network architecture as well as virtual LANs (VLANs) into account.

Access control & secure remote management

IEEE 802.1X (port-, single-, multi- and MAC-based), quality-of-service (QoS), as well as VLAN tagging as per IEEE 802.1q provide the entire range with comprehensive security and management functions. Furthermore, the incoming and outgoing data traffic is prioritized by QoS. Thanks to the dual-stack implementation, the devices operate in pure IPv4, pure IPv6, or in mixed networks to provide full future viability. Secure communication protocols such as SSH, SSL and SNMPv3 enable professional remote network management. The switches also support the TACACS+ protocol for authentication, authorization and accounting.

The LANCOM GS-3152X (EUR 1,699 excl. VAT) will be available from the end of July. The PoE version GS-3152XP follows in August, and the GS-3152XSP will be available from September. The optional 10G-SFP-SX module LANCOM SFP-SX-LC10 costs EUR 329 excl. VAT, the 1G version LANCOM SFP-SX-LC1 costs EUR 119 excl. VAT. The LX version LANCOM SFP-LX-LC1 (1G) is available for EUR 199 excl. VAT. The LANCOM SFP-DAC10 (Direct Attached Cable) for the direct connection of LANCOM switches with SFP ports is available for EUR 109 excl. VAT.

The switches have a 5-year warranty on all components.
