Aachen, April 18, 2017—LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for business customers and the public sector, now offers a free update to its operating systems LCOS and SwitchOS. The new firmware enables some 380,000 LANCOM gateways, routers, WLAN devices, and switches to integrate into the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC); they thus benefit from software-defined networking (SDN) technologies for fully automated configuration and monitoring. Enterprises using the LMC benefit from radical time and cost savings, as well as maximum versatility.

The LANCOM Management Cloud is the world's first hyper-integrated network management solution. With this system, the principles of software-defined networking are rigorously applied to entire corporate networks and all of the network components (SD-WAN, SD-LAN, SD-WLAN). Customers and specialist resellers can operate the LMC as a Public Cloud “Made & Hosted in Germany” or as a central instance at their own datacenter. The system is based on LANCOM's standard portfolio of networking devices.

LCOS 10.0 supports all of the LANCOM gateways, VPN routers and WLAN access points shipped since early 2015. In addition to the full support of the LANCOM Management Cloud, this firmware offers new professional features that are also available when operating outside of the LMC.

Full transparency with layer-7 application detection

Layer-7 application detection offers full transparency and visibility of frequently used applications and services, such as Netflix, YouTube, etc., anywhere on the network. Tracking is easily and conveniently implemented with LANmonitor or the LANCOM Management Cloud for genuine value-added through comprehensive monitoring of the bandwidth and its utilization.

Bonjour proxy

The Bonjour protocol offers Apple clients the fast and automatic discovery of network devices, so that printing and streaming applications (such as Airprint, Airplay, etc.) can be used without prior manual configuration. This now also works between networks, as the Bonjour proxy allows the Bonjour protocol to operate across layer-2 boundaries. This allows you to implement ZeroConf services even in scenarios that operate with VLANs and network virtualization (ARF).

SwitchOS 3.30

Along with LCOS 10, the new SwitchOS 3.30 makes LANCOM switches of the 23xx series Cloud-ready from mid-April. These switches offer a comprehensive range of security and QoS features that are fine-tuned for operation with LANCOM routers and access points, and that enable end-to-end network virtualization. Integration into the LMC means that even complex network configurations involving VLANs are rolled out securely, automatically, and across multiple sites.

Devices operating LCOS 10.0 or SwitchOS 3.30 operate either in conjunction with the LANCOM Management Cloud or autonomously. The LANCOM management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor remain available for use.
